A long time ago when I was still a kid, I loved Evanescence. Call it 'rebelliousness', but I really liked their music. Now of course I realize their music freaks me out. I was listening to the radio one fateful afternoon when I was in 6th grade and I heard the DJ mention the words 'Amy Lee' and 'Seether' so my ears perked up so I listened in. This video is called "Broken", by Seether feat. Amy Lee.
Here are the lyrics:
Broken
I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away I keep your photograph and I know it serves me well I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome And I don't feel right when you're gone away
You've gone away, you don't feel me, anymore
The worst is over now and we can breathe again I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
[x2] 'Cause I'm broken when I'm open And I don't feel like I am strong enough 'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome And I don't feel right when you're gone away
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome And I don't feel right when you're gone away
You've gone away You don't feel me here anymore
In the video it shows mainly two main characters one being the guitar guy (Seether) and the angel girl (Amy Lee). The location for the shooting looked like an abandoned trailer park/desert/junk yard, there is smoke rising from the back, like after a battle.
The song was sung in a duet, although they were saying the same words it seemed like they were calling out to each other. For me the two people could have been lovers who were separated from each other maybe on their own initiative but in the song they realize that they are so lonely without one another. In the video they're eyes never met, nor did they acknowledge each others presence it also seemed that they were always walking around this torn-up battle field looking for something or someone. My favorite part was when they were right beside each other but separated by a wall. For me that wall signified maybe their differences, doubts and troubles but there they were right beside each other not seeing the other person.
There is this one part of the movie that I question, it was the burning scarecrow at the end of the video. It might be a symbol of forgetting the past and seeing each other again, or it might be a symbol of moving on from this current relationship.
This whole video symbolizes the human nature of the need for companionship and the loss we feel once its taken away, this 'need' has changed some people into bitter people or it could turn you into a happy content person seeing the bright side of life being the companion by your side.
